How this estimate was calculated
  • Colorbond steel fence, 20 m at 1.8 m high: $1,900 – $3,600
  • Base range for Colorbond steel: $95–$180 per metre installed at 1.8 m (illustrative placeholder).
  • Height factor ×1.00 for 1.8 m.
  • Length band: 10 to 60 m (reference), factor ×1.00.
  • Flat, easy-access ground is assumed.
  • No location factor applied (no postcode entered).
  • Totals are rounded and exclude permits, engineering, retaining walls, driveway gates, GST treatment and any special finishes.

Please note: Illustrative placeholder figures only. They are not live contractor prices and must be validated before commercial use. Real quotes depend on site conditions, terrain, materials, complexity, gates, access and local contractor availability.

How the fence cost estimate works

The calculator starts from a base installed price per linear metre for your chosen material at a standard 1.8 m height. It then adjusts that range for fence height, the length of the run (short jobs cost more per metre than long ones), sloping land, removal of an existing fence and the number of gates. The total is rounded and shown as a low–high range.

Important: Illustrative placeholder figures only. They are not live contractor prices and must be validated before commercial use. Real quotes depend on site conditions, terrain, materials, complexity, gates, access and local contractor availability. Every dollar figure sits in a single configuration file so it can be replaced with validated data, and the assumptions behind each estimate are listed under "How this estimate was calculated" in the results card.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the fence cost calculator?

It gives an indicative range only. The figures in this build are illustrative placeholders that still need to be validated against real contractor pricing, so treat the result as a starting point for comparing materials, not as a quote.

Why does the calculator show a price range instead of one number?

Fencing prices vary with ground conditions, access, slope, materials, finish and local demand. A range is more honest than a single figure, and a site inspection is the only way to get a firm price.

What does the calculator leave out?

Permits and council fees, engineering for retaining walls, driveway or automatic gates, special finishes, tree removal, utility locating and any neighbour or dividing-fence process are not included.

Does using the calculator share my details with anyone?

No. The calculator runs in your browser and collects no personal information. Details are only saved if you submit the quote request form and tick the consent box.

Can I use the calculator for any state or territory?

Yes. Enter any valid Australian postcode and we detect the state or territory. Regional price adjustments are not applied yet because validated regional data is not available.
